Our Flyerz are Flying in Antwerp!

Our Flyerz squad the UK Lions (recently seen on the BBC News) are over in Antwerp playing in the EuroHockey Parahockey Championships, and so far it has been an exciting tournament!

On Monday, the squad played 6 games against France, Belgium, Ireland, England, Belgium a second time, and Ireland a second time. Unfortunately during the first game against France they lost 3-0 but this team was particularly strong and got moved up to the next level group.

Game 2 – Belgium the squad had a brilliant 2-0 victory and this winning streak carried on into the 3rd game against Ireland where they had a brilliant 3-0 victory!

In the afternoon, Game 4 saw a 1-1 draw against England, Belgium resurfaced for Game 5 and they took their revenge and beat the UK Lions 1-0 and the final game of the day against Ireland saw the UK Lions win with a 5-3 victory.

Tuesday, the UK Lions came back onto the pitch determined to win the day and with smiles on their faces and our 5 Wakefield Flyerz were eager to score some goals. They won 2 games, drew 3 games, and lost 1 which is once again a brilliant result especially for a team who have never played together before.

Our amazing Wakefield Flyerz scored 7 out of the 10 goals with Rob scoring 3, Thomas and Rowan scoring 2 each. Even better than this the UK Lions are through to the final tomorrow against England!

Good luck to the whole UK Lions Team, including the Midland Mencap and Tumbridge Wells individuals that make up this fantastic squad. Also the whole of Wakefield Hockey Club is behind you and we wish you all the luck in the world and to, most of all, have a great time.
