International Masters player, Julia Butterworth, wins Gold at the European Championships!

England Hockey Masters Women’s Over 55s had an unforgettable weekend, proudly bringing home the title of European Champions at the WMH 2025 European Championships in Nottingham. The team’s fantastic journey was made even more special thanks to Julia “JB” Butterworth, whose energy and talent shone throughout the tournament.

From the very start, JB set the tone with her impressive attacking play. Highlights included a memorable hat-trick in England’s emphatic 10–0 win over Belgium and another goal against Alliance. She was at the heart of many of England’s best moves, always looking to create chances for her teammates and drive the team forward. With performances like these, it’s no wonder England advanced confidently from the group stages.

Things only got more exciting in the semifinals. JB’s relentless work rate and clever runs earned her the well-deserved Player of the Match award in a tightly contested 1–0 victory over Scotland in the Semi Final.

In the final, England once again faced Germany, holding their nerve and controlling the match before clinching the European title with a thrilling late goal.

JB’s determination and sportsmanship were clear for all to see, making her a standout performer and a wonderful inspiration for everyone in Masters Hockey. As this season’s Vice Captain, JB spoke with genuine pride about being part of such a supportive leadership group—one that helped guide the squad to a well-earned gold medal. With this latest success, England Hockey Masters Women’s O55s are now both European and World Champions—a result worth celebrating!

Well done, JB! We are all very proud of your achievements and the way you represent your country and the club.
