In Loving Memory of Monica Pickersgill

Matt Anderson1 Mar - 12:19

Honouring a distinguished leader, devoted player, and a lasting influence on English hockey.

We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our former member, Monica Pickersgill.

Monica was a remarkable figure in the history of women’s hockey and a true servant of the game. She served as the final President of the All England Women’s Hockey Association (AEWHA), guiding the organisation through a pivotal moment in its history. With great care and leadership, she oversaw its merger with the Hockey Association (HA), and subsequently became the first President of the newly formed English Hockey Association (EHA). Her steady leadership during this transformative period ensured a strong and unified future for the sport in England.

In addition to her national contributions, Monica also served as President of the Northern Counties Hockey Association (NCHA), where she continued to champion the development and growth of hockey across the region.

Monica’s dedication to the sport extended far beyond administration. She enjoyed a distinguished playing career, captaining Yorkshire and proudly representing the North. Her passion for hockey, both on and off the pitch, left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of playing alongside her or serving under her leadership.

Monica will be remembered not only for her significant achievements and service to the game, but also for her warmth, integrity and unwavering commitment to hockey at every level.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with her family and friends at this sad time.

She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all at the Club.
