Wakefield Hockey Club are exceptionally saddened to hear the news of the passing of Amy Hughes, daughter of Norman & Pam Hughes. Amy passed away on Wednesday morning.
Amy was a Wakefield HC Junior and was one of the bright stars to come out of the junior section at that time. Amy was a true sports person, who could turn to any sport and pick it up especially Hockey & Golf.
However, in her early 20's Amy was diagnosed with Battens Disease, an inherited neurodegenerative disorder that causes progressive loss of vision, motor skills, and cognitive function.
Amy battled the disease for over 25 years with the immense loving and care from both Norman and Pam whilst living in Dewsbury, before moving up to Northumberland in recent times.
Amy wasn't a stranger to Wakefield HC and would be seen at the club over the years accompanying Norman & Pam when visiting, and was great to see her and seeing friends who had knew her through her playing days at the club.
Everyone at the club offered their deepest condolences to both Norman & Pam during their difficult time.
RIP Amy
