Wakefield put behind their 1st loss of the season from last week behind them as they came out winners in a hard fought 4-3 away win at Oxton.

Oxton were playing their 1st home game this season after having 2 away games and were looking for home advantage to get their 1st points of the season after being promoted up into National League North Conference.

Wakefield were the better of the two teams in the 1st quarter, controlling the game and were rewarded with 2-0 lead thanks to a brace from Martin Sutherland, his 1st goals for the club in national league since joining from Sheffield in the close season.

The 2nd qtr. however was a complete opposite as Wakefield struggled to fine the same level of performance as the 1st qtr. and Oxton took advantage of this and were able to pull one back to make the half time score, Oxton 1 - Wakefield 2.

In the 3rd qtr., Wakefield looked to try and get back to the levels of the 1st qtr. and in brief spells showed this and were rewarded with a goal from Matt Claxton to put Wakefield 3-1 but Oxton pull one straight back, and Wakefield had to weather the pressure with being down to 9 men, but survived to make the score 2-3 to Wakefield going into the final qtr.

Wakefield extend their lead early in the 4th qtr. with a goal from Jack Richmond but the home side wouldn't go away and pulled one back with 10 mins to go. Wakefield were forced to work hard for the win as they went down to 10 men for half of the last 10 mins, but battled to keep the score line in their favour as Wakefield recorded their 1st away win of the season. A great 3 points away from home, especially with the expectational warm conditions, un-associated with October!
